Make your Own Beats – How I Produce Some of my Best Beats

I love to make my own beats. Some of the best beats I produce are instrumentals that I did quick and spur of the moment. Sure sometimes I hear something in my head and put it down, but alot of the time, it sounded better in my freaking head! I suppose the reason for this is that while I’m producing the beat, I will start to drop the bass line or keyboards, and it takes a turn in the wrong direction. I go with it, because it seems like a really catchy pattern, but all in all, when the beat is done it sounds mismatched. When you make your own beats, the best sometimes are ones that have a great keyboard part, and complementing drums. We have all come up with a cool drum track and put a bunch of twinkles ontop, ends up a great club banger, but sometimes you might want to go for a real vintage hip hop sound. Make Music Beats – 4 Tips for Creating Hot Tracks that are Marketable!

1) Identify your audience. What type of music does your audience listen to?
2) Once you’ve identified your audience, listen carefully to the music beats of today’s top 5 – 10 songs in that specific genre. Your ears are the most important thing you have for making beats. The best producers will tell you that LISTENING is key to improving your music production skills. For instance, take a track and break down the different parts one-by-one. Listen to the drums first…notice the amount of reverb added, the panning, when does the rhythm change, and so on. Listen and analyze each of the instruments in the beat.
